Northern Pennsylvania Regional College was approved as an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training provider by the Department of Health in July 2019. EMS continuing education, as well as emergency medical responder (EMR) and emergency medical technician (EMT) classes will be available.
This course presents the technical knowledge and skills necessary to be an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Successful completion of this course is required for individuals to be eligible to take the National Registry exam for Emergency Medical Responder. The exam is not part of the course.
Must be at least 16 years of age; completed Department of Health application; completed form for reporting criminal convictions, discipline, and exclusion from a State or Federal health program; medical physical exam; submission of vaccination history; drug screening; and proof of medical insurance.
This course provides training and skills necessary for certification as a Basic Emergency Medical Responder. Students will be introduced to various lifesaving skills including CPR, airway management, patient assessment, as well as basic medical and trauma care.
Through this training, students will be able to understand the roles and responsibilities of the EMR in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They will also be required to apply skills and training in a lab environment.
This course has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as meeting the educational course requirement that an applicant for certification as an Emergency Medical Responder needs to satisfy to be certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Responder.
