NPRC Set to Celebrate The Week of the Young Child

NPRC Week of the Young Child

Northern Pennsylvania Regional College is excited to celebrate Week of the Young Child (WOYC) from April 6-12, 2024. This week includes activities and themes that our institution looks forward to each year because it brings together not just members of the NPRC community, but the early learning community nationwide. This week was developed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to challenge the early education community to “Step It Up” and spread the word about the importance of high-quality early learning, and the critical role early childhood educators play in a child’s development and erudition.

President Snelick signed a proclamation to advance the Early Childhood Education (ECE) profession in March. This proclamation acknowledges the following:

  • High-quality Early Childhood Education (ECE) is dependent on high-quality early childhood educators who ensure that children, supported by families, have the early experiences they need for a solid foundation.
  • Many early childhood educators do not have equitable, affordable access to the ECE credentials and degrees needed.
  • Early childhood educators need a mixed-delivery early childhood education system of degrees and credentials that allows them to select the setting that best meets their needs.
  • Early childhood educators need opportunities to acquire critical skills, knowledge, and competencies through pathways to credentials and higher education degrees, without incurring college debt.

President Snelick and Northern Pennsylvania Regional College recognize the complex, valuable, and demanding work of educators and that when our society helps educators, we can make a difference for many children and their loved ones. All early childhood educators should be valued, respected, and compensated for the important roles they play.

Our early childhood education students and partners are taking an active part this week to share their work and how they engage their students. The College will also feature current and former early childhood education students this week to highlight the impact they’re making in their careers. Join us and our community on social media or at home and help us celebrate Kickoff Saturday, Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and/or Family Friday!

Use the hashtag #WOYC24 and tag NPRC’s social media pages (Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn) to share with the ways your child or children learn as they sing, cook together, build together, create art, and celebrate their loved ones.
