Blake's Story

Blake Alexander of Venango County was named NPRC’s Student of the Month for July 2025. Alexander came to NPRC ready to make a change in his life. He had previously worked in construction for over 10 years, but his heart was set on having a more direct connection with people.

He’s majoring in human services and has plans to not just earn an associate degree, but to continue his education and earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology. His career goal is to become either a counselor, caseworker, or therapist for teens and young adults.

A recent experience in therapy was life-changing for him, and he hopes he can be an outlet or someone who aids people in overcoming the challenges they’ve faced or may be facing in their lives. Alexander had a strong first term in the Spring of 2025 as he became a Dean’s List student. But even more than this accolade, the confidence and belief in himself grew that he’s made the right career decision and pivot in his life to give college a chance.

“This past semester was my first college experience, and I loved it. I’ve learned so much about myself and how I work so I can better prepare for my next term and excel better where I need to. I previously believed that I was not smart enough for college, but after a very successful first semester, I have the confidence in myself and my skills to have a great next term.”

The course he believes that has set him up for success for the rest of his college career is Mr. Ben Blood’s college readiness course. “Mr. Blood’s class I would always look forward to because the information taught was so crucial for college success. It was exciting I could directly apply it to my life and see positive growth over time.”

Alexander continues to work nearly full time at around 30 hours per week while he completes his courses. On the days when he’s exhausted, he leans on his girlfriend Joeylynn to keep him motivated and on track, while also providing the moral support that reminds him he’s incredibly capable of being an excellent student. When not working on dedicating time towards his schoolwork, Alexander loves to spend time with friends and family and especially going fishing with them.

Blake’s already become a champion of the college, sharing that NPRC has many times that courses are offered to help accommodate working professionals’ schedules and those in many life circumstances. After a very successful first term, Blake Alexander has found confidence in his ability in the classroom and his future is as bright as ever.
