Kat Thompson and Aaron Singer Join Board of Trustees

Aaron and Kat NPRC Board of Trustees

NPRC’s Board of Trustees meets monthly to advance the mission and vision of the institution. During the September and November board meetings, new board members were announced and have begun their terms. The new trustees have replaced trustees whose terms are expiring or have previously resigned from their post on the board. Appointed Trustees serve three-year terms.

Joining the Board of Trustees are Kat Thompson of Oil City, Pennsylvania and Aaron Singer of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.

Thompson joined the Board of Trustees in September and brings a plethora of experience in different industries such as manufacturing, international education, tourism, economic development, and workforce development. She currently serves as the Membership and Education Manager for the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in Global Economic Development from Spring Arbor University in Michigan. She also is a graduate of Leadership Venango, holds a Certificate of Achievement from Strictly Business: Dale Carnegie Immersion Seminar, and is currently completing training through the Institute for Organization Management (IOM), a four-year nonprofit leadership training program through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She made her way back to her western Pennsylvania roots in 2015 after spending several years living outside of the area. Since returning to northwestern Pennsylvania, she has become involved with organizations in leadership roles such as Pennsylvania Association of Chamber Professionals (PACP), Friends of Oil Creek State Park, the Oil City Main Street Program, the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board (PA WDB), the Venango Technology Center, Future Leaders’ and Entrepreneurs’ Exchange (FLEX), and Be Here Venango. Thompson stated, “The Venango region is full of opportunities, especially in education. I’m looking forward to strengthening our ties with our local business community and NPRC, as there is so much alignment in our goals. In my role, I meet with local high schools to emphasize the importance of being work-ready and I’m excited about NPRC’s programs that support this mission.”

Singer became an NPRC board member earlier this month at the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for MetalKraft Industries Inc., located in Wellsboro, as well as President for Keystone Automatic Technologies in Emporium. Singer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Shippensburg University. His business and manufacturing sense will be an impactful addition to NPRC’s Board of Trustees. In his volunteerism, Singer is active with organizations like C&N Bank, Bingaman & Son Lumber, Laurel Health Foundation Investment Committee, St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Wellsboro Area Youth Soccer, and the Wellsboro Area School District as an assistant coach in a collection of sports. Singer shared, “I am honored to join NPRC and to begin working with a dedicated group of professionals that understands the challenges and opportunities in higher education. I know we will be making a positive difference in shaping the future of education and support students in Tioga County and beyond.”

NPRC board Chairperson, Duane Vicini, acknowledged, “We are excited that these two new members have joined the NPRC Board of Trustees. Kat Thompson, from Venango County, brings experience with community development, her work with area youth, and planning background to the board. Aaron Singer, from Tioga County, brings expertise in manufacturing, experience in serving on another post-secondary institution’s board previously, and a knowledge of the Northern Tier region. Both professionals share a passion for the counties in which they reside and work as well as a keen interest in the educational and workforce development opportunities offered within the region served by the College. We look forward to them being active, crucial members of the Board of Trustees going forward.”
