President Joseph T. Nairn, Founding President of Northern Pennsylvania Regional Community College, was a recent guest on The Hound WDDH-FM. During the radio talk, Nairn discussed how NPRC provides affordable, accessible, and achievable academic and professional support throughout the northern region of Pennsylvania. Furthermore, he discussed how the communities in northern PA need to be served by two things.

  • Career and technical education for the workforce
  • An affordable pipeline for students who aspire to move on to a four-year college

Luckily, NPRC’s educational model prepares both traditional and adult learners for long-term success.

NPRC Provides Educational Solutions to Communities During COVID-19

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of schools, colleges, and workforce development training centers have taken a hit. Fortunately, NPRC was built to be responsive in times like this. Our model is different from a traditional brick and mortar college, yet nothing like your average online university. Because NPRC covers a broad geographical area, we recognized that anything considered “traditional” was unrealistic. NPRC compiled technology to create an audio-visual instructional delivery system that teaches traditional students and adult learners in real-time, to parallel a regular classroom environment. Students are still required to adhere to a class schedule, much like you find at a traditional university, but attend courses by utilizing online video technology.

“It’s completely interactive. Students are called on, and they have the classroom-type education, yet we are affordable because we are utilizing existing buildings throughout the different communities,” says Nairn.

When the pandemic started, NPRC’s education model really didn’t change; rather, we transitioned from classrooms to remote delivery from homes. None of the real-time education stopped, nor did the ability to interact with students alter in any way. Because of COVID-19, now more than ever, traditional students and adult learners are looking to enhance their education and take a fast track to success in the real world.
